Robust optimization approaches for purchase planning with supplier selection under lead time uncertainty

Supplier reliability is a critical issue for manufacturing companies. Delivery delays from suppliers create backlog and firefighting on the shop floors. To avoid disruption hedge against supplier lead time uncertainty, companies rely diversification, multi-sourcing, safety times. In buyer might order same product (raw material) different suppliers. The design of robust cost-efficient purchasing/ordering plan in multi-sourcing complex task which has strong impact performance company. this study, we investigate use optimization integrated lot-sizing selection problem under uncertainty. More specifically, polyhedral budgeted uncertainty sets. resulting model determines ideal lot sizes to minimize total costs taking into consideration suppliers’ prices. solve problem, row column generation approach proposed. alleviate scalability issues, enhance through counterpart formulation, propose an efficient fix-and-optimize approach. Our extensive computational experiments show that yields good quality solutions within reasonable amount time. We provide insights diversification based risk profile decision-maker. One conclusions extremely risk-averse decision-maker selects single supplier, namely most reliable one even if it does not offer lowest price.
